RLSD Facilities & Maintenance
Rib Lake has a three-building campus; pK - 5th students attend Rib Lake Elementary School, 6th - 8th grade students attend Rib Lake Middle School and 9th - 12th grade students attend Rib Lake High School. All facilities are owned and operated by the Rib Lake School District, located in a rural area with students coming from 7 municipalities within Taylor and Price counties.
The three district buildings house approximately 480 students, while providing access to a comprehensive and rigorous program of course offerings. Additionally, the district has a school forest located 5 miles north of town off of county highway D.
In the spring of 2015, the community supported a $4 million referendum to upgrade school facilities. The Board of Education approved $3.3 million in spending to upgrade HVAC, plumbing, and roofs while improving building envelopes and electrical. In addition, many windows were replaced across the district as well as the installation of a new biomass boiler. Over the summer and fall of 2015, the projects were completed.
As part of an ongoing process to maintain building facilities, the Board appointed a Buildings and Grounds oversight committee who monitored the 2015 projects. The committee also worked with ICS Consulting, Inc. to develop a Long-Term Capital Improvement Plan. The objective of this 10 year facility asset plan is to provide essential information for the District to use in planning for short and long-term building needs, quantifying costs and budget impacts, and identifying strategic methods of funding. The key factors that that drove decision-making for this plan included:
- Life Cycle Models for major building components and systems
- Quantification of Unfunded Liabilities associated with building needs
- Current and forecasted Facility Condition Index (FCI)
- Prioritized needs and opportunities
The Board of Education approved this plan in December, 2015. Click here for plan details.
